Conversation Archive “belongings.dk”

Dansk Design Center (DDC) is the data controller for the processing of personal data published in the digital archive on this website. We take good care of your data and wish to ensure full transparency about how we process it.

1. What personal data do we process?

When you participated in the exhibition “Belongings: Affection as a Design Strategy” at Design Museum Danmark from 25 January 2026 to 31 May 2026, it was possible to interact with an artwork in which an AI recorded and transcribed your conversation about a personal object and photographed the object.

We process:

  • The transcript of the conversation: The text version of your conversation with our AI. Although the purpose is to discuss an object, the text may contain names, personal stories, or other information you have shared.

  • The photograph of your object: The image of your personal belongings taken during the interaction.

  • Voice recordings: The raw audio files are deleted automatically once transcription is complete and are not stored in our permanent archive.

2. Purpose of processing

The purpose of the archive is communicative and artistic in nature. The archive explores the relationship between people, personal objects, and artificial intelligence, and constitutes the digital documentation of the artwork as a whole.

3. Legal basis for processing

The processing of data in the archive is based on the consent given in connection with the interaction at the exhibition, as well as our legitimate interest in documenting and communicating the art project (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

4. How long do we retain your data?

The archive is publicly accessible as long as it serves its communicative and artistic purpose. We will permanently delete or anonymize the data if the project concludes, or if you request the removal of your contribution.

5. Your rights and the right to erasure (The right to be forgotten)

You have the right at any time to access, rectify, or request the deletion of personal data relating to you in the archive. As your name or email address was not collected during the exhibition itself, we need your assistance to identify your specific conversation.

How to request deletion of your conversation and image:

If you recognise your contribution in the archive and wish to have it removed, please:

  1. Locate the conversation in the archive on the website.

  2. Copy the conversation’s title, date, and timestamp.

  3. Send a short email to gdpr@ddc.dk with the information specified under item 2 above and a message requesting deletion.

We will process your request and permanently delete the contribution from our servers and website within 48 hours of receipt.

6. Two independent data controllers

The personal data in the archive was generated through two separate stages, each with its own data controller:

  • The artist was the independent data controller for data collection at the exhibition, including recording, transcription, and photography, as well as obtaining informed consent from visitors.

  • DDC is the independent data controller for the subsequent processing in the digital archive on this website, including storage, publication, and the handling of erasure requests.

The two processing activities are independent: DDC had no involvement in the design of the data collection process at the exhibition, and the artist has no influence over the operation of the archive.

If you have questions regarding the consent obtained at the exhibition or the data collection process itself, please contact the artist directly:

7. Disclosure of data to third parties

DDC does not sell or otherwise disclose personal data to third parties for commercial purposes. However, in order to operate the archive, we make use of data processors acting on our behalf. These include providers of IT infrastructure and hosting services. All such processors are subject to data processing agreements with DDC and are contractually required to process personal data solely in accordance with our instructions.

Personal data is processed within the European Union and the European Economic Area (EU/EEA). Where any data processor is established outside the EU/EEA, the transfer is conducted on the basis of an adequacy decision by the European Commission or subject to appropriate safeguards in accordance with GDPR Chapter V.

8. Complaints to the Danish Data Protection Agency

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Agency (Datatilsynet) if you are dissatisfied with the way we process your personal data. The Agency’s contact details are available at www.datatilsynet.dk.
